Oils analysis and identifying chips

Oils analysis

Oil plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the complex in oil-proof systems, such as motors, chalks, hydraulic systems, etc. A defect in the whole may result from deterioration in the properties of the oil or penetration of pollutants and neutralization of oil function.

An oil test is therefore intended to determine the oil's health and the mechanical state of the system. The test provides information on adjusting the oil for continued service or exhausting its life and the need to replace it. The test also verifies the compatibility of the type of oil to its designation or, alternatively, overuse of oil. In addition, the test provides information on the presence of unusual wear, leakage from a cooling system, infiltration of certain pollutants and early forecasting of faults and failures. If the system fails, the oil test can indicate the failure options as well as the maintenance actions to be taken to prevent repeated failures in the system. The test provides an assessment of the overall cleanliness of the system and the need to replace oil filters. When a system filter is detected, a chemical analysis is performed to identify the source of the chips.

A detailed explanation and examples can be found in the article: preventive maintenance instead of maintenance of a fracture.

Typical test bin ("Main-pack"):

  • Contents of wear metals
  • Contamination of formal pollutants such as calcium and silicon
  • Level of additives in oil
  • Viscosity of oil
  • Fat oxidation rate
  • Presence of liquid pollution such as foreign oil or fuel
  • The presence of liquid water pollution

Additions to the test basket:

  • Physical properties (viscosity, acidity, water content, precipitation, etc.)
  • Spectrometry (Metals wear and additives)
  • Prography, counting particles
  • Prography ++ - Chemical micro-analysis for precise identification

Chip testing

In critical systems, such as jet engines or energy systems, magnetic plug detectors are installed.

Chip testing is a chemical identification of the chips on the cork that allows the user to locate the exact source of the chips and to decide on an immediate maintenance policy for handling the event. Duration of identification - up to 24 hours.
